Tamil - The People

The Tamil forms the majority of the population, but there is considerable concentration of other language sections belonging to the Dravidan group which have played a useful role in the enrichment of the culture of the state. The Telegus consititute about 10 per cent of the population, Kannadigas 2.53 per cent and keralites 1.19 per cent. The Kerelites are concentrated in Gudalur taluk of Nilgiris district and the Kannadigas in Coimbatore district kannadigas appear in another form as Badagas in Coonoor and Udagamandalm areas.

The people of tamil nadu generally, are friendly and very hospitable. The Tamil culture of hospitality is known the world over. Hospitality so warm and caring that comes naturally. Upon entering even the humblest of households, a visitor is almost forced to partake of some light refreshments, refusal to comply being considered a breach of Courtesy. Tradtion - bound they are deeply religious, clinging with hidebound tenacity to their habits as well as superstitions.
